Defense, hot-shooting propels Spurs to a 53-28 halftime lead
The San Antonio Spurs are trying to put away the game early, eager to take a 2-0 series lead over the Utah Jazz.
San Antonio opened the first quarter strong building an 11 point lead 28-17 after one quarter, before the Jazz made the game close and cut the lead to 26-31 early in the second quarter.
However, that's when the Spurs got it going. Relying on their defense and combining it with excellent shooting the silver and black went on 22-2 blast to close the first half as their lead ballooned to 53-28 at halftime.
The Spurs held the Jazz to a woeful 11-of-47 (23.4 percent) shooting in the first half, including 0-5 from the 3-point line, while making 21-of-38 (55.3 percent) of their own shots.
Utah tried to be more physical and forced Parker to be a jump shooter that seemed to work early on, but San Antonio matched their intensity and have done a good job on the boards and protecting the basket.
Both teams have 23 rebounds in the first half, but the Spurs have a 4-1 edge in block shots and 14-5 advantage in assist. San Antonio have only two blocks total in Game 1.
The Spurs have looked pretty good in the first half, but they need to pour it on in the third quarter, and cut the hopes of the Jazz of making a serious come back.
