As reported by sportsillustrated.com, San Antonio Spurs VP of basketball operations Danny Ferry have been hired by the Atlanta Hawks as their new GM, according to the Associated Press.

Ferry spent the past two seasons with the Spurs as vice president of basketball operations after a five-year stint as a general manager with Cleveland Cleveland.

He was given a multi-year deal, of which terms were not immediately disclosed. Ferry, who had also been linked to open GM jobs in Philadelphia and Portland, will be announced at a press conference later this afternoon.

This makes four NBA teams whose GMs have Spurs connections. The other three are New Orleans’ Dell Demps, Phoenix’s Lance Blanks and Oklahoma City’s Sam Presti. Rob Hennigan, recently hired to replace Otis Smith as Orlando’s general manager, began his career in the Spurs’ front office — first as an intern, then as director of basketball operations in 2007.

The coaching list is even longer: Boston – Doc Rivers; Chicago – Tom Thibodeau; New Jersey – Avery Johnson; Denver – George Karl; Clippers – Vinny Del Negro; Lakers – Mike Brown; New Orleans – Monty Williams; and Phoenix – Alvin Gentry. (Hat tip: Spurs Nation)
